Lead Drummer Brian Martin

Brian Martin

Under the tutoring and teaching of Jim Ingles and Ian Elrick, Brian (“Mooner”) Martin started to develop his drumming from the age of 8 years. He joined the 47Th (Aberdeen) Culter Boys Brigade Pipe Band and was greatly influenced and guided by the prodigious ability and talent of Tom Brown who helped “Mooner” stretch his playing ability and his development as a snare drummer. This quickly became apparent when “Mooner” was appointed Leading Drummer of the band and then he was part of the Novice Juvenile Band competing successfully in RSPBA events.

Progression into the newly formed Juvenile Band was followed by the formation of the Culter and District Pipe Band where he again was Leading Drummer.

Mooner competed successfully in the RSPBA North of Scotland branch solo competitions with success and in 1994 he joined Buchan Pipe Band again as Leading Drummer. He has led the Buchan Pipe Band Drum Corps to considerable success, in 1995 and 1996 as part of the “7 in a row” Major Championship winning team, as North of Scotland Champions, North of Scotland Champion of Champions both in Grade 2 and in Grade 1 consistently since then and success in local and solo competitions. “Mooner” had one season out of Buchan in 2001 but returned in 2002 to lead the drum corps since then.
