Grade 4 Band

In 1990 it was apparent to all involved with Buchan Pipe Band that a supply of younger members into the Band was held back due to the step from competent player into the competing Band being just too far without being involved in competition at a lower RSPBA grade.

A constant number of people wishing to learn how to play the Pipes and Drums created its own issues by diverting the attention of tutors from the "Big Band" and the aim of forward progression in the RSPBA Grades and competition success.

As part of the fundamental and long term approach by members of Buchan Pipe Band organisation to continue to promote and develop the traditional music and Pipe Band activity, a junior band was formed in 1991. The concept was, and still is some 16 years later, a means for competent young players to experience belonging to a Band which carries out public performances, events and also enters competition in the official Pipe Band contests.

In 1991 The RSPBA officially Graded the new Buchan Pipe Band in Grade 4 and success at numerous competitions has been achieved since. This Band has continued to develop members from competent players into the competition circuit and then onto the senior Buchan Pipe Band.
